La Lucha de un Zapatero // A Cobbler's Struggle
INTERNADO TrailerINTERNADO is a non-fiction film about the controversial addiction rehabilitation program, run by Dr. Martin Nizama, at the Noguchi Institute for Mental Health in Lima, Peru. Dr. Nizama's program generally requires that patients are locked in their homes, against their will, guarded by their own families. Patients are then subjected to a rigorous program of writing, reading, and drawing, that culminates in the completion of a 11,000 pages thesis on his or her life history. For context, that's longer than most editions of Don Quixote. The entire process can take over four years. While it would be easy to dismiss this program as overly severe, there's evidence that it can be effective. We wanted to understand the program — and addiction in general —from the perspective of both Dr. Nizama himself, and the patients he oversees. What you're watching is just a trailer. The completed film will be released in late summer, 2015.A special thanks to Dr. Nizama, and the patients and families who allowed us to spend time with them throughout a very vulnerable period in their lives. Also, thanks to Jacqueline Norheim for her help and support, along with Daniel Rodriguez, for showing us the ropes in Peru.
